Solid Waste Makes Spring Cleaning Easier and Eco-Friendly

Provided by Prince William County

Spring and spring cleaning usually go together. The Prince William County Solid Waste Division offers several useful services to residents.

From the yard: Residents can bring garden waste such as lawn waste, branches and leaves to designated areas where it is processed into mulch, wood chips or compost.

From the garage:: Residents can hand in lead-acid car batteries, household batteries and scrap metal parts as well as used antifreeze, oil and filters in specially designated areas.

From home: Donating is a great way to get rid of “still usable” items. Visit “Recycle / Reuse” on the solid waste website or search the web for “donation centers near me” to find organizations that can accept these items.
Hazardous household waste (HHW): HHW items are in the yard, garage or at home. HHW includes items like insecticides, paints, fluorescent lights, aerosol cans, drain cleaners, gasoline, and more. Take extra care to dispose of these items properly and prevent them from harming septic tanks, waterways, and floors. Prince William County residents can dispose of these items at no additional cost on the days of the Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Program. Visit the Household Hazardous Waste page to learn more.

The Prince William County’s Solid Waste Division has a green space for almost everything. Further information can be found in the disposal manual from A to Z.
