Startup unveils next-gen water heater with unbelievable capabilities — you can collect massive government rebates to upgrade

Are you ready to save hundreds of dollars a year on energy for your home? Then a heat pump water heater could be the right choice for you. And there's never been a better time: There are plenty of federal incentives now available and new cutting-edge technologies coming to market.

A heat pump water heater, which uses electricity to move heat from one place to another rather than generating heat directly, can reduce the operating costs of a four-person household by around $550 per year, according to Energy Star.

And the deal gets even sweeter: Currently, the federal government is giving homeowners up to $1,750 for a heat pump water heater under the Inflation Reduction Act's Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program. Additionally, you can claim up to 30% of your heat pump installation cost (up to $2,000) through the IRA's Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit program.

Ready to choose your new heat pump water heater? If so, you can browse a list of Energy Star recommended models. Plus, a startup called Cala might have exactly what you're looking for – the world's first “smart heat pump water heater.”

The device uses predictive technology to heat water when energy is cheapest and cleanest. In doing so, these heat pump water heaters, which will be available in 2025, can further reduce the need for dirty energy and save a family of four more than $6,000 over the life of the unit. Additionally, Cala's high-efficiency water heaters increase your comfort at home by heating water exactly when it is needed.

In addition to cost savings, heat pump water heaters, whether “smart” or not, can help reduce carbon pollution – currently, residential energy use accounts for about 20% of the pollution caused by a warming planet in the United States. Reducing this number can help protect us from the worst impacts of an overheating planet, such as worsening and more frequent natural disasters that threaten life and property.
