Steubenville council debates urgency of Slack Street sewer repair amid funding concerns

At the meeting of the Steubenville City Council on Tuesday, a regulation was discussed in a second reading to finance the CSO 12 Slack Street.

According to the sewage supervisor Chuck Murphy, there is an earth hole on the site of the Slack Street mill, which led to the collapse and break of the city's sewage pipe.

Murphy said this had to be tackled before a bigger problem occurs.

On Tuesday evening, an application for reading was made as an emergency, which, however, failed. Many council members said that the problem has existed for many years and they do not understand why it has to be tackled now.

“This has been the case for 20 years and I think it is time to look for a different financing channel than to continue to be in debt,” said City Councilor Dave Albaudh.

The third reading of the regulation will now take place as an emergency at the council meeting next Tuesday.
