Telecom Fiber Lines The Source Of North Texas Homeowner’s Plumbing Problems – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

HEATH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Heath’s Michael Mahan says that it suddenly became clear on Christmas Eve that there was a problem with his pipes.

“Everything behind the shower is an inch deep in the water, nothing rinses, nothing goes down,” he said.

Plumbers got to work suspecting that a tree root might be blocking a pipe.

“What we found,” he said, searching for the right words. “I don’t think they could have done that if they tried.”

Two fiber optic lines, one from AT&T and the other from Suddenlink, cut its sewer connection.

“I could not believe it. Both hit dead center in the middle, ”said Mahan.

He recalls AT&T laying a line two and a half years ago and Suddenlink some time later.

He was single at the time, and even a partially clogged pipe seems to have run business.

Today he is married and has a wife, a son and his mother who lives with him.

“We put a lot of pressure on the system and that’s when we noticed the problem,” said Mahan.

He has been trying to get the problem under control since Christmas.

“Who are you blaming? As if we don’t care. We just want our toilets to flush, ”he said.

Mahan says no plumber wanted to risk disrupting AT&T or Suddenlink’s lines, and none of the companies had shown up by Thursday.

So CBS 11 reached out to both of them.

The next morning, an AT&T crew was on his doorstep.

A Suddenlink contractor had also arrived that afternoon.

“When they showed up this morning, I was super happy and said, ‘Thank you!'” Mahan said.

In a statement to CBS 11, AT&T wrote:

“As we work to expand and improve our fiber optic network to deliver ultra-high speeds to communities, our goal is to minimize the impact on local residents as much as possible. We instruct our contractors to follow all necessary procedures to have the utility lines located before work begins. We work with our contractor to do repairs and restore all of the effects of our work. “

The company’s crews had repaired the damage by sundown.

And after some delay, Mahan finally got the Christmas present he was looking for.

“All I want for Christmas is to flush my toilet,” he says with a laugh.
