From the cold
- Test your water shutoff valve
- Turn off sprinklers or irrigation systems and drain them completely
- Eliminate cold air sources near water pipes
- Protect your pipes with insulation or heat tape
Below are freezing tips
- Open cabinet doors and vanities to allow warm air to flow in
- Allow a small stream of water to flow through the pipes
If your pipe freezes
- Turn off water immediately
- Thaw the pipe by warming the air around it (Pro Tip: Avoid unattended rooms + kerosene heaters or open flames – you don't want to add fire to the mix)
- Once the pipes have thawed, carefully turn the water back on and check for any cracks or leaks
