On the night of Monday, December 2nd through the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 3rd, Gresham Place Northwest and a portion of Fifth Street Northwest will be closed to allow DC Water to conduct subsurface surveys in the area. Teams will work throughout the night from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. to examine surrounding ground conditions and conduct field inspections to provide a clear picture of subsurface conditions.
While survey work is underway, Gresham Place, a one-way street, and the southbound lane of Fifth Street will be closed at the intersection. DC Water worked with nearby Howard University, the District Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to schedule the work at night to minimize disruption and traffic noise for testing.
The northbound lanes of Fifth Street will also be closed for approximately two hours; However, equipment can be cleared quickly if the road is needed in an emergency.
There will be no impact on water or wastewater supplies or significant noise pollution. The following figure shows the locations of the traffic control diversions and the anticipated study area for these works.
