Trenchless in Valencia: More than 500m of SAERTEX-LINER H2O potable water UV liner installed

With the successful installation of the SAERTEX-LINER H2O in late summer 2020, the drinking water supply was secured for over 1.6 million people in Valencia, Spain.

The project was led by Spanish company GRUPO CANALIS – Soluciones Tecnológicas, who turned to SAERTEX multiCom GmbH and their advanced UV-CIPP technology to rehabilitate the aging pipeline.

The order comprised 500 m of DN 600 cast iron pipe, which supplied the metropolitan region of Valencia with drinking water.

GRUPO CANALIS – Soluciones Tecnológicas was tasked with delivering a sustainable project that would protect existing infrastructure, keep costs down and minimize disruption to local residents in the area.

The pressure-resistant and hygienic SAERTEX-LINER H₂O from SAERTEX multiCom was selected for its superior mechanical properties and extended durability, which allow the liner to be externally impregnated and delivered ready for installation.

This award-winning liner has a smooth finish combined with thin walls that maximize flow rate in utility lines. Due to its composition, it is also tight and, depending on the DN of the pipe, withstands a pressure of up to 33 bar.

Aware of the complexity and difficult conditions, the team started the work with a thorough on-site inspection and SAERTEX multiCom offered a two-day theoretical and practical training course to all those involved.

The project was divided into five sections ranging in length from 58 to 128 meters with access pits at specific locations to ensure all required work could be carried out above the excavation pits.

After cleaning and video surveillance of the old pipe, the team installed the pre-impregnated liner and began the UV curing process.

With the incredible technology used, the team was able to closely monitor the curing process and access real-time data from the camera built into their UV light chain.

The installation of the SAERTEX-LINER H2O was a complete success and met all the necessary hygiene approvals for drinking water, meaning that nothing stood in the way of the pipeline’s water supply being put back into operation.

The entire installation, including training, was completed in an amazing 14 days and was the largest installation of SAERTEX-LINER H2O on the Iberian Peninsula to date.
