Trick or Treat Dates Set for Sistersville | News, Sports, Jobs

The Sistersville City Council met at the Sistersville Fire Department on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. A mask requirement was introduced, which everyone adhered to. After the pledge of loyalty, the first item on the agenda was a presentation by Trey Simmerman of the Simmerman law firm. Trey discussed with the city council the possibility of his office representing the city as legal counsel after Krista Fleegle resigned. Simmerman Law is a Clarksburg, West Virginia based law firm that caters to the needs of individuals, local and regional businesses and is a Fortune 500 company. Trey would be responsible for the city’s legal affairs and pledged to attend meetings when needed, but would be available for all meetings either via zoom or conference calls. All work completed by Trey would be submitted on a monthly basis by individual invoice. The Council has approved the appointment.

Following Trey Simmerman’s presentation, the council approved the minutes of the council meeting on September 13, 2021 and approved the payment of the bills.

As part of the update to the water project, Mike Yandrich, S&S engineers reported that the inspection of the booster station would be scheduled as soon as the final connections were made by Mon Power. The expected time for this event was not known. Mike was also informed that several Litman water stops were not installed and required immediate attention. Mike will meet with Litman to plan the installation. Mayor Bill Rice reiterated that the final payment for the water project will not be made until all the work is done.

As part of the new business, the water meter contract was approved by the Council. The lead time for the new meters is approximately 5 months with a total cost of $ 84,309 for installation and $ 275,000 for the meters.

Also in the context of new business, the council approved the dates for autumn cleaning from October 25th to 30th. Citizens must present their water bill to prove their place of residence and are limited to 2 truck loads per household with a length limit of 2.40 m for the trucks. The delivery for the autumn cleaning takes place at the location of the sewer system. The cleaning does not accept tires, batteries, paint or large devices.

Under department head reports, Jason Rice reported that the smoke tests and work on the camera lead had been completed. He also said the hydrant flush will begin the week of October 25th.

By next month’s meeting, the council had a discussion of the dollars and priorities for spending and the priorities for filing the Tyler County Commissioners for future disbursements. The decision for the Streetscape project to repair and replace the sidewalks and to install new lighting from the city building on Route 2 on the left side of the street was also submitted. The cost of the project has increased significantly to around $ 250,000.

Hocus Pocus in the Park will take place on October 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the running rehearsal in the city park. Trick or Treat and the Halloween Parade are scheduled for Thursday October 28th. Trick or Treat runs from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the parade begins at 7:30 p.m., led by the Pride of Tyler County, the TCHS Knights Marching Band.

A female school bus driver from Tyler County attended the public forum to express concern about the road conditions on Timber Ridge Road from Route 2 to the nursing home. She said the potholes were a problem for her preschool and elementary school children even at 5 mph. Since the street is owned by the city, Mayor Rice responded that the city did not have enough money in the paving fund to pave the street. The latest estimate he’s got for the paving is over $ 400,000, but the city would do whatever it takes to mend the potholes until a better solution is found.

Amy Byard reached out to the council about damage Dominion caused to her water pipes from Rt 2 to her home. She said that tamping the soil to smooth the gravel was too much and caused the damage. Mayor Rice said he would discuss this with Dominion.

Following the public forum, the meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled meeting of Sistersville City Council is on Monday, November 1st, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
