MASON CITY, Iowa – June 29, 2022 – A street line replacement project under US 18 immediately east of the Kossuth County Road R-14 intersection (240th Street) requires US 18 traffic to stop beginning Tuesday, July 5, using a detour by July 19, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City Construction Office.
During this project, motorists will be diverted around the work zone by driving approximately 1.1 miles south on Kossuth County Road P-60 to Kossuth County Road B-40 and approximately 6 miles east on Kossuth County Road B-40 to Take Iowa Highway 17, then approximately 2.1 miles north on Iowa Highway 17 to US 18 (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive carefully, obey posted speed limits and other posted signs in work areas, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations in work areas are at least twice as high. As in all work areas, drivers should remain alert, leave adequate space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
