Victorian Building, Plumbing Practitioners Surpass 63,000

The latest licensing and registration figures have shown that the number of licensed and registered building and plumbing tradespeople in Victoria increased by 1.3 per cent year-on-year to 63,682.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the state saw a 1.8 percent increase in the number of plumbers and a 2.1 percent increase in the number of plumbing licenses and registrations issued. Plumbers can hold more than one license or registration in a plumbing class, so the increase in plumbing qualifications highlights a workforce that is constantly upskilling.

Most construction courses saw an increase in enrollment, with over 500 new construction practitioners joining, bringing the total enrollment to over 32,000.

Due to the abolition of the Domestic Builder Manager (DB-M) occupational group, more than 300 construction companies had to close last year (a decrease of 1.2 percent).

The VBA continues to issue licenses to the growing number of registered engineers wishing to work in the industry. With over 4,600 engineering licenses, the number is over 420 (10 percent) higher than last year.
